Unismuh Engineering Students Guide Thai Students to Create Academic Emails

UNISMUH.AC.ID, NARATHIWAT, Southern Thailand — Students from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Muhammadiyah (Unismuh) Makassar, participating in the International Community Service Program (KKN) Batch 2, Respiani and Andi Hilyatul Mar’ah, provided assistance in creating student email accounts for students at partner schools in Narathiwat, Southern Thailand, on Sunday, June 21, 2026. This activity was carried out to enhance students' digital literacy through the utilization of information technology that supports learning processes and academic communication.

Through this program, students received guidance ranging from account registration, email activation, secure password management, to utilizing email for academic needs. The activity was conducted directly and interactively, allowing students to accurately understand each stage of using digital services.

Respiani stated that the ability to use email has become a fundamental skill required by learners in the digital age. According to her, almost all educational activities today are integrated with information technology.

“Currently, almost all educational activities utilize digital technology. Through this activity, we aim to help students understand the use of email as a means of communication and learning so they are better prepared to face future technological developments,” said Respiani.

During the activity, students appeared enthusiastic in following each mentoring session. They not only practiced creating email accounts but also actively discussed how to leverage digital technology to support their daily learning activities.

In addition to technical practice, students also provided materials on personal data security, communication ethics in digital spaces, and the responsible use of information technology. These materials were provided to build digital awareness from an early age and simultaneously reduce the risk of technology misuse.

Andi Hilyatul Mar’ah believes that mastering digital literacy is one of the important competencies young people must possess. Therefore, email assistance is considered a preliminary step for students to access various digital-based learning resources.

“We hope this simple activity can provide long-term benefits for students. By having an email account and understanding how to use it, they will more easily access various digital learning resources and utilize technology to support the educational process,” said Andi.

The Head of the Informatics Engineering Study Program at Unismuh Makassar, Rizki Yusliana Bakti, S.T., M.T., appreciated the students' contribution in implementing information technology competencies through the international community service program. She emphasized that this activity not only taught technical skills but also built a culture of safe and productive technology utilization.

“This activity demonstrates that Informatics Engineering students can make a real contribution to improving the digital literacy of the community. Email usage assistance not only teaches technical aspects but also builds awareness regarding safe, productive, and responsible technology utilization,” said Rizki.

Rizki explained that programs like this serve as an example of the implementation of information technology knowledge that can directly benefit the community. According to her, students are capable of translating academic competencies into simple solutions relevant to the current needs of the education world.

Similar appreciation was conveyed by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Unismuh Makassar, Ir. Muhammad Syafaat S. Kuba, S.T., M.T. He noted that the student email assistance activity aligns with the demands of 21st-century education, which is increasingly digitalized and requires early mastery of technology.

“Digital literacy is one of the important competencies of the 21st century. We greatly appreciate students who are able to present technology-based programs that provide direct benefits to the community. Through the International Community Service Program, students not only develop global insights but also implement scientific knowledge to address real needs in partner environments,” he said.

Muhammad Syafaat added that the technology-based programs carried out by students are part of efforts to expand the impact of higher education community service at an international level. He also believes that these activities demonstrate students' readiness to face global challenges through collaborative and solution-oriented approaches.

The International Community Service Program (KKN) Batch 2, managed by the Institute for Educational Development and Quality Assurance (LP3M) of Unismuh Makassar, is part of the International Community Service scheme. This program is designed to provide students with global experience through cross-border community service activities.

Out of a total of 30 participants in the International Community Service Program, 11 students are from the Faculty of Engineering. They are carrying out various programs focused on technology, education, environment, and community empowerment in Southern Thailand.

Through this assistance in creating student emails, Unismuh Makassar students demonstrate that digital transformation can begin with simple steps that have a real impact on the world of education. The program is expected to serve as a foundation for enhancing students' digital literacy and strengthening Unismuh Makassar's contribution to technology-based educational development at the international level.
