Unismuh Business Law Students Study Labor Dispute Resolution at the Makassar Manpower Agency
UNISMUH.AC.ID, MAKASSAR — The Business Law Study Program at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Muhammadiyah (Unismuh) Makassar, conducted a field visit to the Makassar City Manpower and Trade Agency (Disnaker) as part of the practical learning of Labor Law, Thursday, June 4, 2026.
The activity, which took place in the 3rd Floor Hall of the Makassar City Disnaker Office, AP Pettarani Street, was attended by 17 sixth-semester students of the Business Law Study Program. The group was received directly by the Head of the Industrial Relations and Jamsostek Division of the Makassar City Disnaker, Reza Nugraha, S.IP., M.Si., along with several industrial relations mediators.
The lecturer in charge of the Labor Law course, Andi Santri Syamsuri, S.H., M.H., said that the visit aimed to provide students with direct learning experience regarding the mechanisms of resolving industrial relations disputes.
According to him, students not only need to understand the theory obtained in the classroom, but also know the practical resolution of labor disputes that take place in the field.
"Through this activity, students can conduct direct observations and interviews with industrial relations mediators so that they understand the role and function of mediators in resolving disputes in a tripartite manner. Thus, students can gain a real understanding of resolving disputes through non-litigation pathways," he said.
In his remarks, Reza Nugraha expressed his appreciation for the academic visit by Unismuh Makassar students. He considered the activity important to broaden students' understanding of the dynamic labor market that is constantly evolving.
Reza also encouraged students, especially those interested in the field of labor law, to consider a career as an industrial relations mediator as one of their future career options.
He revealed that the number of labor disputes recorded at the Makassar City Disnaker has been increasing year by year. As of May 2026, the Makassar City Disnaker had received approximately more than 100 complaints of disputes, including disputes over rights, interests, as well as disputes over termination of employment (PHK).
"Labor issues are becoming increasingly complex and dynamic. Therefore, the role of academics and universities is very important to provide thought and solutions so that various issues can be minimized," he said.
He also urged students to make the most of the learning opportunity. According to him, students will later play a role as entrepreneurs, workers, or government officials who need adequate understanding of industrial and labor relations.
Meanwhile, Andi Santri Syamsuri hopes that the field visit will be the first step in strengthening cooperation between the Faculty of Law, Unismuh Makassar, and the Makassar City Disnaker, especially in the field of education and the development of labor studies.
He hopes that in the future, students can carry out practical learning, research, or other academic activities in the Makassar City Disnaker environment so that the synergy between the academic world and government institutions can further support the development of students' competencies.
