Unismuh Makassar Agri-Business Students Invite Southern Thailand Students to Realize Clean and Healthy Schools

UNISMUH.AC.ID, Pattani, Southern Thailand— Muhammad Maulana Abubakar, a student from the Agribusiness Program at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Muhammadiyah (Unismuh) Makassar, participated in an environmental cleanup activity with students and teachers at Ban Tanyong School, Southern Thailand, on June 21, 2026. This activity was part of the 2nd Batch of the International Community Service Program organized by LP3M Unismuh Makassar through the International Community Service scheme.

During the activity, Muhammad Maulana Abubakar was accompanied by two team members, Erwin from the Communication and Islamic Broadcasting Program (KPI) and Umar Al Faruq from the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Program, both from the Faculty of Islamic Religion at Unismuh Makassar. Together, they collaborated with teachers and students to create a cleaner, healthier, and more comfortable school environment.

The purpose of this activity was to raise awareness among students about the importance of maintaining a clean environment and to instill a culture of cleanliness and health from a young age. In addition, the activity served as a learning opportunity to develop character through the application of values such as cooperation, responsibility, and care for the surrounding environment.

Together with the students and teachers, the International KKN students cleaned various areas of the school, including the yard, classrooms, school garden, and surrounding areas. The atmosphere of the activity was full of enthusiasm and cooperation, reflecting good collaboration between Indonesian students and the school community in Southern Thailand.

As an Agribusiness student, Muhammad Maulana Abubakar explained that caring for the environment is an important value that should be instilled in young people as part of sustainable development.

"A clean environment will have a positive impact on health, comfort, and the quality of teaching and learning. Through this activity, we want to encourage students to be more aware of the environment and to develop healthy habits that can be applied in everyday life," he said.

According to him, maintaining the cleanliness of the school environment is a simple step that has a significant impact in creating a conducive learning environment and shaping students who care about the environment.

Meanwhile, Umar Al Faruq added that maintaining cleanliness is also part of the values taught in Islam.

"Cleanliness is an important part of a Muslim's life. Through this activity, we want to instill awareness that caring for the environment is not only an individual responsibility, but also a shared responsibility as part of community life," he said.

Similarly, Erwin conveyed that the activity was also a medium to strengthen cooperation and teamwork among students.

"Simple activities like this teach many positive values, starting from cooperation, discipline, social responsibility, and care for the environment. We hope that this spirit can continue to grow and become a culture in the school," he explained.

The Ban Tanyong School expressed its appreciation for the initiative of the Unismuh Makassar students in actively involving students in various positive activities during the International KKN program. According to the school, the activity provided valuable experience for students in developing healthy and clean habits from a young age.

Muh. Ikmal Saleh, S.P., M.Si, Head of the Agribusiness Program at Unismuh Makassar, praised the students' initiative in presenting a simple yet impactful program for the school community.

"Agribusiness students not only learn about economic and agricultural management aspects, but also have a responsibility to instill awareness of the importance of a healthy and sustainable environment. This activity is a real example of how students can contribute positively to the community through international service," he said.

Dr. Ir. Hj. Andi Khaeriyah, M.Pd., IPU, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Unismuh Makassar, also praised the students' involvement in various environmental education programs at partner schools.

"We are proud to see the Faculty of Agriculture students implementing environmental values in international service activities. Such programs not only benefit the community, but also shape students who are socially responsible, have a global perspective, and are committed to sustainable development," she said.

The 2nd Batch of the International KKN Program managed by LP3M Unismuh Makassar involved 30 students from various faculties placed in schools in Narathiwat, Pattani, and Yala provinces, Southern Thailand. Through various education, environmental, social, and community empowerment programs, Unismuh Makassar students are striving to make a real contribution and strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand.

Through the environmental cleanup activity at Ban Tanyong School, Muhammad Maulana Abubakar and the International KKN team demonstrated that caring for the environment can start with simple steps that are carried out together. This activity is part of the effort to build a generation of young people who are environmentally conscious, responsible, and ready to create a healthier and more sustainable future.
